BUDLEIGH Salterton blitzed away from the bottom of the A Division 2nd XI table with a runaway nine-wicket win over Plymouth 3rd XI.Nick Rose and Darren Oxland had identical figures of three for 14 as Plymouth were hustled out for 94.
Ben Carter then hit an undefeated 44 as Budleigh knocked off the runs in 20 overs with Alex Richardson (14) the only casualty.
Heathcoat took a seven-wicket battering against Sandford, after Gary Abdoll (5-17) and Brian Leach shot them out for 80.
Toby Lochead hit 43 as Sandford chased in a hurry.
Braunton fell away on the chase at Chudleigh, where they went down by 13 runs.
Ben Tuckett (87) was Chudleigh’s anchorman, sharing stands of 69 with Mark Heather (37) and again with Sean Newland (32) in a total of 202 for seven.
Braunton were 45 for none then 54 for five in reply after Mark Lathwell was run out for a duck, which didn’t help.
Alfie Huxtable (56) and Calluum Mitchell (22) put on 53 for the sixth wicket, but the damage was done and Braunton faded to 189 all out.
The wickets were shared around with Paul Sercombe and Graeme Wilson claiming two each.
Stoke Gabriel must have been sick of the sight of Hatherleigh’s Richard Tidball after his starring role in the seven-wicket defeat which sent them to the bottom of the table.
Apart from a brace of 36s from Dave Boland and Paul Collings, Stoke had no answer to Tidball, whose five for 28 helped shoot them out for 131.
Tidball then hit 30 and Jack Cherrington (49) on his return to the 2nd XI as the runs were knocked off.
Gary Newall had one person to thank for the superb batting track that helped him roll back the years to score an unbeaten century for Bradninch 2nd XI – he prepared the track himself!
The Kensham Park stalwart has back trouble these days and so only turns out when needs must.
He carried his bat throughout the 46 overs of the game with Barton II, striking 11 fours and three 6’s in an unbeaten 112.
Chris Acton thumped 47 – the pair 117 for the third wicket as Bradninch closed on 213-3.
Sadly for Newall and his team mates the ton was not to be a winning cause as Barton got home with a couple of wickets and one overs to spare.
