IT’S almost all cut and dried in the A Division with just one major issue to be resolved.South Devon are already down before their home game against Plympton, but either Shobrooke Park or Brauton will go with them.
Shobrooke need a win against Plymstock and for Braunton to loose or get a poor draw against Paignton if they are going to stay up.
All Shobrooke can do is win and hope for the best
“It will be a hard game as Plymstock have some momentum, but if we play well we can get the result we need,” said Shobrooke captain Justin Dollow.
Braunton, who are nine points ahead and the team to catch, are at home to Paignton.
Champions Exeter are at home to Cornwood, who need two points from the game to be 100 per cent certain of the second promotion place.
It is ten years since Cornwood last played in the Premier Division and despite skipper Craig Harris being cautious it is hard to see how they can miss out on second spot.
“Inevitably it would come down to the last game and with the opponents being the team at the top of the division, but I feel we are in the best situation of all of the teams chasing promotion,” said Harris.
“I think as a team we have worked hard and played well when we have had the good continuous weather and the tables give a fair representation given our form in the back-third of the season.
“We have a lot of respect for Exeter as a team and they are in a similar position to us with teams across their club well placed in their respective divisions.
“I will be urging our teams to give it one last push and to leave everything out on the pitch - if we perform to our ability as individuals and as a team then it will be a great end and job done with getting promoted.
“We have a massive achievement ahead of us and nothing to fear heading in to it.”
Team news is that Jason Hall and Freddie DeMendonca are unavailable. Ewan Grewal comes in and Cornwood will be naming an eleventh player nearer to the game.
Mathematically, Paignton could still scrape into second if Cornwood get nothing much at Exeter, not that skipper Andy Kingdon holds any great hopes.
Paignton were second until they drew with Plymstock three matches ago and started to slide down the table.
“We will play to get the 20 points, although I am disappointed not to be going into the game with a better chance of going up,” said Kingdon.
“But the lads have done very well this year. With seven under 19s the future is certainly looking good for Paignton.
“There is no doubt in my mind that if we keep the current 11 we will be one of the best sides in the county within the next five years.”
South Devon will be without former skipper Dave Knowles against Plympton. Ben Pritchard is pushing to replace him.
