A Division 2nd XI: Stoke struggle for side

A DIVISION 2nd XI

STOKE Gabriel’s team-raising problems came to the surface last Saturday when they were unable to get a team out away to Plymouth.

Stoke have been hard hit by transfers out during the close season and the added issue of availability problems meant they had to rob the 2nd XI to get a 1st XI out.

New players would be very welcome at Stoke right now. Contact Doug Ansley on 01548 550237 if you fancy a game.

Barton skipper Mike Lievesley was left lamenting nine dropped catches as his side came a cropper by 94 runs against Chudleigh.

Paul Horne (46) rode his luck and there were let offs for Paul Sercombe (40) and Mark Heather as Chudleigh reached 175 for nine. A bright spot for Barton was a three-wicket haul for new boy Will Wyatt.

Matt Ball (4-32) and Graeme Wilson (5-21) then shot Barton out for 81. Only Lievesley (20) lasted long.

Guy Bucknell cracked an unbeaten 104 as Heathcoat totted up 201 for nine in the derby date against Bradninch. Phil Chappell took four for 39.

Rob Acton (58no) led the rearguard action as Bradninch blocked for a draw at 168 for eight.

Budleigh Salterton’s game against Braunton was called off on Thursday due to the state of the pitch at Ottermouth.

Hatherleigh 2nd XI had a pointless trip to Sandford were Mike Jones made 20 in an all-out total of 58. Dave Dredge (4-13) pressed his 1st XI case with four for 13 then slammed 38 of the required runs in a nine-wicket win.

The only wicket to fall went to Hatherleigh’s lady player Claire Reynolds (1-11).
