BRADNINCH batsman Matt Jarrett hammered out a reminder to the selectors who dropped him from the 1st XI by taking his frustrations out on Budleigh Salterton 2nd XI.
Jarrett larruped the Budleigh bowling for 152 not out, which came off 158 balls and included 23 fours and three sixes.
A stand of 174 with super veteran Andy Nichols (59) helped Bradninch reach 286 for two.
Budleigh had cruised to 108 for one in 17 overs – Harry Parkin (35no) and Ben Carter (44no) the main run getters – when play was called off.
Jarrett will be hoping to have done enough to join the 1st XI against North Devon this Saturday, rather than accompanying the 2nd XI to Braunton.
Barton were frustrated by the weather when their chase against Heathcoat had to be curtailed.
Heathcoat had two main stands in their total of 185 for nine – one for the third wicket of 80 between Andrew Birt-Mitchell (68) and Sean Andrews (30) and 38 for the last between Daron Drew (23) and Kevin Johnson.
Adam Last (3-35) and Mike Lievesley (4-31) were Barton’s leading bowlers.
Twelve overs into the chase Barton were 50 for one with Matt McCann on 28 not out and Dale Adderley recently departed for 20.
A second-wicket stand of 94 between Graeme Wilson (49) and Ed Forward (23) formed the backbone of Chudleigh’s 190 for six against leaders Sandford. Sean Newland added 32.
Wilson (2-6) had Sandford labouring at 35 for two from 18 overs at the early adjournment.
Former Somerset and England batsman Mark Lathwell showed he still has a touch of class by hitting a century against Stoke Gabriel.
Braunton were 45 for four after 10 overs having run into trouble against Sam Hill (4-46) and needed a pick-me-up.
Lathwell stroked 123 and there were runs for Mark Johnson (25no) and Matt Seward (29) in a total of 254 for eight. Adam Castle (2-65) finally accounted for Lathwell.
Stoke were 66 for two – Ashley Hill making 29 – when rain stopped play in the 13th over.
Hatherleigh 2nd XI were on the brink of victory when their match away to Plymouth 3rd XI fell foul of the weather.
Ian Cockwill (2-16) and Ross Cherrington (2-22) had done the hard bit by limiting Plymouth to 116 for seven – James Rothwell top scoring on 32.
Despite interference from Phil Barrow (3-34), Hatherleigh were 93 for four with 20 overs left at the termination. Tom Rogers made 29.
