Twelve-year-old Alfie takes eight wickets in fourth adult game

PLYMOUTH’S next generation is going to be a strong one by the looks of it – if 12 year old Alfie Hagan-Burt is anything to go by.

Hagan-Burt, who attends Devonport High School for Boys, bowled out Whitchurch almost on his own in an E Division 2nd XI game.

The county age-group player took eight for 36 with his seamer as Whitchurch were bowled out for 211 – Danny Luffman making a top score of 87,

“Alfie was only playing in his fourth men's game,” said proud dad Nigel.

“He got no wickets in the first two, then two in the game preceding this one, so he's getting used to the men's game quite quickly.”

Plymouth didn’t capitalise on Hagan-Burt’s performance though as they were bowled out for 197 and lost by 14 runs.

It will be a while before Hagan-Burt (left) makes the 1st XI, but Plymouth already have him marked down as one to watch.

“It is a truly remarkable performance to return with figures like that and we are excited to see how he progresses,” said Hooper.

“I think it is a testament to the hard work of the coaches at the club and in the Devon set-up that performances like that can happen.

“It was also great to see that the coaches smiles were as broad, if not bigger, than Alfie’s.

“He should be very proud of what he has achieved, but knowing Alfie I am sure he will back in the nets this week trying to improve even more.”
