A DIVISION 2nd XI
BARTON held out for a draw at Exmouth after realising 245 to win was beyond them.
Stuart Rintoul (pictured) and Julian Page rolled back the years to score centuries as Exmouth dominated with the bat.
Rintoul, the former captain of Dorset, helped himself to 13 fours and four sixes on his way to 109 off 110 balls.
Page, Exmouth’s former 1st XI captain, made 102 not out from 129 balls with 14 fours and no sixes.
The pair put on 201 for the second wicket on an Exmouth total of 244 for two. There were just time for Jason Matthews (17no) to get in at the end.
Stuart Bowker with two for 36 was the most effective of the Barton bowlers.
Barton replied with 137 for seven, take there by Mike Lievesley and Jim Parker.
Parker collected 38 runs off 90 balls in a minute below two hours of the first 80 runs in the board. Lievelsey was 30 not out and the end.
Pat Hall had three for 58 for Exmouth and Matt Tarry two for 25.
SIDMOUTH missed a chance to get away from the A Division danger zone when they lost by two wickets to fellow strugglers Braunton.
Neither side had won going into the game and the danger for Sidmouth was of getting cast adrift rather than gaining ground on Chudleigh and safety.
Sidmouth are now 39 points away form safety and looking increasingly like relegation candidates.
Chris Brigden (4-34) and Tom Latham (3-16) combined to bowl out Sidmouth for 128.
Jonny Briggs (33) and Nick Mansfield (32) were the main Sidmouth run getters, which does not leave a lot from the rest.
Braunton were 100 for eight in reply – Mark Johnson (23) doing as well as anyone – and grateful to Chris Brigden (19no) and Latham (15no) for seeing them through to their first win of the season.
Sandford had too much firepower for Plymouth, who were dispatched by 170 runs.
Bob Eames (77) and Tom Sparrow (53) got Sandford off to a 107-run start, then Jason Matten thumped 45 off 14 balls towards a total of 223 for six.
Matten slammed five fours and three sixes, including 28 in boundaries in one over from Ryan Gill (0-57).
Plymouth were then skittled out for just 53 and only got that far thanks to a last-wicket stand of 19 between Martin Gill and Phil Barrow.
Brian Leach took five for 14 and Shaun Fryatt four for 23.
LUKAS Fencl had a match to remember as Bradninch defeated Plymstock by five wickets.
Fencl bagged six wickets for 23 runs as Plymstock were bowled out for 145. Phil Chappell had two fvor 16 from ten tight overs.
Plymstock were 110 for five after Jason Williams (56) and Kevin Smale (21) had been and gone. Their last five wickets tumbled for just 35 runs.
Bradninch we nt off briskly with Matt Jarrett (45) and Syed Hussain racing along to 65 for three in 14 overs.
Fencl (45) and Rob Acton (23no) got Bradninch within six runs off victory, which was a formality by then.
CHUDLEIGH didn’t have the bowling to stop Tavistock knocking off 153 to win at the Ring.
The game was reduced to 32 overs a side, which makes Chudleigh’ total of 152 for eight seem respectable.
Graeme Wilson (41) and ed Forward (28) put on 65 for the first wicket, before Dave Jeffrey (4-46) and Jamie Stephens (2-25) slowed things up.
Nick Goodchilde (78no) batted through for Tavvy, opening up with Matt Witcher (39) in a stand of 85.
Barry Griffiths (2-23) and Sean Newland (2-23) had some success, but not enough to alter the outcome.
