Babbacombe played their first junior match for 20 years against Chelston at Torre Valley North last Sunday.

Chelston scored a creditable 127 for six against a keen attack  -all 10 players got a bowl.

Babbacombe may only have made 55 all out, but gained some valuable experience in their first hard-ball match.

Paul Bates, Babbacombe's new youth cricket coordinator was delighted with the first match.

“This is something we have been building towards for the last two years,” said Bates.

“We have offered soft-ball, Kwik Cricket at the club for two seasons, and for the first time provided hard-ball winter training this year.

“We have built a squad of around 20 boys and girls and have nine fixtures booked in the South Devon Youth Cricket League this season.

“The long term aim is to eventually develop these youngsters into senior players to sustain the future of the club.

“It was great to see so many members and parents come down to the first game to support the lads.

“Hopefully, it will be the start of a bright future for the club.”

Babbacombe played kitted out in new shirts provided by co-sponsors Airport Transfers Direct and The Training Partnership.
