Broad aiming for three in a row

BABBACOMBE captain Steve Broad hopes the forthcoming season will produce a third consecutive promotion.

The progressive Walls Hill outfit have won the E and F Divisions of the Francis Clark Devon League in the last two years.

Andy Kingdon (81.67), Jacob Hand (73.86) and Mike Pugh (61.36) topped the divisional batting averages last season as Babbacombe swept almost all before them en-route to the E Division crown.

Veteran left-armer Paul Bates took 38 wickets at 9.45 each while Kingdon chipped in with 28.

The club are preparing thoroughly, with indoor nets starting on Tuesday, February 4 (7.30-9pm) through till early April at Westlands School.

Friendly matches arranged in April prior to the league getting under way.

Coaching remains under the guidance of last season’s leading run-getter and player-coach Andy Kingdon (left). Most of last season’s squad remains intact.

Australian Jacob Hand is unable to return this season, but the club hopes to recruit an overseas opening bowler to spearhead their attack.

Babbacombe are also re-entering the South Devon League for the first time in more than 20 years.

New players are welcome to join the club. Contact Broad on 07966 235948 or manager Ron Thomson (07973 500654) for details.
