BARNSTAPLE & Pilton captain Steve Moore has one ambition only this season – staying out of trouble.
B&P have been mid-table in the B Division for the past couple of seasons and Moore will be happy to stay there.
“We haven’t recruited anyone over the winter and have lost Andy Barton, which is like losing two players as he bats and keeps wicket,” said Moore.
“Like a lot of clubs we are don’t have big numbers so it is important we develop our youngsters. This season they are going to have a big part to play.
“Jack Popham is now in his third season in the 1st XI and now has to start taking wickets on a regular basis.
“As the seasons goes on I can see younger lads like James Rowe and James Thomas getting a go.
“Paul Schiller, an opening bowler who came to us from Victoria Park last year, has a lot of potential and I would hope he will press this season.
“And our batting will be stronger when Tom Popham comes back from college.
“Saying we want to finish mid-table may sound defeatist, but it isn’t. I am just being realistic.
“We don’t have an overseas player or money to spend like some other clubs do on players.”
