BARTON Skipper Adam Parker wants Premier cricket back at Cricketfield Road again, a status they lost in 2007 along with Chudleigh.
Barton detoured down to the B Division briefly before starting to climb back again.
Premier cricket is a wish, but Parker said you have to be careful what you wish for.
“Premier cricket is a massive step up from where we are now,” said Parker.
“Maybe it is a year too soon for some of our younger players, not that we would say ‘no’ if we went up.
“Last season we lost games we should have won in the first half of the season. Two or three more wins and we could have put a push in. That is the sort of consistency we need to find.”
Parker will be hoping new South African signing Denovan Ekstrall can instil some of that consistency with bat and ball.
Ekstrall has a decent track record with bat and ball on the Birmingham League circuit and did play one First Class game for South Western Districts.
Will Grainger is home from the armed forces and should play a full season, as should Chris Needham, who barely featured last year.
“With Chris Penner available more often this season, it is like signing three new players,” said Parker.
