BARTON skipper Adam Parker will be looking for another complete performance when the Cricketfield Road side pay a maiden visit to Lewdown.
However, Barton will be without Will Grainger and Jack Porter, who both played in the big win over Abbotskerswell on day one.Parker highlighted consistency in his pre-season overview as the key to mounting a promotion push this season.
Not too many teams will roll over as obligingly as Abbotskerswell did last Saturday – all out for 48 chasing 198 to win – but a lot of what Barton did can be carried forward into future games.
And, as always, there will be areas to improve on.
“We batted pretty well and batted out the time, but were three runs away from another batting point and missed out,” said Parker.
“It may not mean much now, but the odd points over the season add up and can make a difference.
“I thought we bowled well and backed our bowlers up in the field by taking our catches.
“Once we had them four for eight there was only going to be one outcome.”
Shaun Needham top scored for Barton with 47, keeping calm after seeing Chris Penner and Will Grainger go cheaply to get the score up to 67 for three.
Denovan Ekstraal , Barton’s overseas player for 2014, chipped in with 46.
Down the order there were handy contributions from Tom Drake (32), Steve Lewis (22) and Damon Calland (21no).
Hugo Whitlock with three for 31 shaded the bowling honours for Abbots.
Abbots were undone by Ekstraals; opening burst – he took four of the wickets in a running tally of 10 for five – and eviscerated by Jack Porter with four more.
Only last man Whitlock with 11 made double figures for Abbots, who will hope for better fortunes against Plympton this Saturday.
