B DIVISION
HATHERLEIGH made it three wins on the bounce at the top of the B Division when they crushed Axminster by 10 wickets to go 11 points clear of Chudleigh in second place.
Veteran Nick Rogers took five for 32 as Axminster were bowled out for 124.
After Tristan Wakeley (48) and Rob Pryor (23) departed, Axminster collapsed in a hurry. Their last five wickets went for just six runs as Richard Lake (3-28) and Sean Leatheran (2-23) joined in the wicket spree.
Gareth Tidball (57no) and Rob Chapman (42no) polished off the target. Tidball hit 48 of his 57 in boundaries.
Lewdown bounced back from their defeat by Hatherleigh by inflicting a 144-run defeat on Tavistock in the first meeting between the two sides.
Mark Jordan hit a top score of 74, Kris Harris cracked 57 and Rob Mutch 44 in Lewdown’s total of 282 for five.
Tavvy were all out for 138 in reply with Aaron Churchill’s 33 as good as it got.
ALPHINGTON are learning fast according to skipper Paul James as they chase a quick return to the A Division with a new-look side.
The Alphas make the short trip to Thorverton this Saturday having done everything but beat Barton at the Chronicles last time out.
With Mike Gaymer stroking 73 not out, Alphington made a respectable 176 for eight against one of the better bowling attacks in the division.
Barton were hanging on at 138 for nine when their overs ran out.
Said James: “We had an eventful game that ended in us just not being able to pick up that final wicket.
“We had chances with a couple of dropped catches and a couple of very good shouts for lbw turned down.
But all in all I was very proud of a young side who could have crumpled during a couple of sticky patches in the game, but instead were fighting for a win at the end.
After Alphas lost Ben Morris for 37 to a fine piece of bowling by Tom Porter (5-23), they subsided to 80 for five with Damon Calland (3-28) also among the wickets.
Gaymer and Tom Weeks (20) added 63 for the sixth wicket to rescue the situation.
Barton got off to a flyer reaching 40 for none after six overs – Shaun Needham (40) getting on with it - then Alphington began to peg them back taking regular wickets.
Tom Bath (2-24), Stuart Shaw and Lee Rowe (3-17) all chipped in with wickets, including two in two balls for Rowe, but last pair Stuart Bowker and Alex Hunt earned Barton the draw.

CHUDLEIGH will need to buck their ideas up when they are bowling if they want a result at Axminster on Saturday.
That’s the verdict of skipper Jon Martin after a disappointing two-wicket home defeat by Barnstaple & Pilton.
Lance Ames made 42 and Dan LeMarquand 37 as Chudleigh posted 181 for seven against B&P.
George McEndoo (3-26) and Jack Popham (2-34) bowled tidily for B&P.
Early wickets for Martin and Ben Holmes then had B&P reeling at 32 for four in reply. Fifty-one for five wasn’t much of an improvement!
Skipper Steve Moore (45no) and Tom Popham (58) then put in 64 for the sixth wicket to get B&P back in the game.
Jack Thomas (21no) was there at the end after coming in at 130 for eight.

THORVETON entertain Alphington this Saturday third in the B Division table after running away with a seven-wicket win at Dartington & Totnes.,
Nick Barton (4-24) and Ben Slaviero (3-39) were the men of the moment with the ball as D&T were dismissed for 104.
Darts were 59 for two when Bertus Loots was dismissed for 40, got to 97 without further mishap them lost three wickets for no runs at all as they were bowled out in 33 overs.
Thors lost opener and captain Ali Fury to the first ball of their reply – Nathan Caton-Robertson nipping him out – but were never serious troubled knocking off the runs.
Paul Fielder (53) and Dave Baldock (29) put on 95 for the second wicket to put the game beyond D&T.
