TAVISTOCK have had a boost ahead of the basement battle with Axminster as batter Ian Gray is back.
A bad knee injury has prevented Gray playing so far. As he scored 472 runs last season, he has been missed. Wayne Downham also returns.
There are only three points between winless Tavvy on the bottom and Axminster, prompting skipper Shaun Daymond to comment: “ It is a big game for us and we need big points.”
Thorverton entertain second-placed Chudleigh looking for a bounce-back win after losing at Barton.
Skipper Ali Fury is doubtful for the second week running due to work commitments.
“Other than me for the first time this year a full squad is available so we are looking to bounce back from the disappointment of last week,” said Fury.
Chudleigh skipper Jon Martin has virtually a full side out and intends them to dominate.
“We will be looking to come out on top and continue our charge towards cementing a promotion place,” said Martin, matter-of-factly.
Barton go to second-bottom D&T hoping to start with an unchanged side.
Skipper Adam Parker wants to keep doing the right things while adding a few refinements.
“We are looking to build on a brilliant performance last week and string together a number of positive results,” said Parker.
“We are showing signs each week that we are getting better; our next task is to address the extras situation as we are giving away far to many.”
Lewdown go to Barnstaple keen to keep climbing the table after beating Axminster to go third.
“It’s third against fourth, another big and tough game and I am looking to continue recent good form and try to close the gap on Hatherleigh,” said skipper Charlie Hughes.
The Williams brothers are replaced by Pete Cooper and Mark Gibbs.
Alphington, at home to leaders Hatherleigh, need to make minor improvements to get up the table.
Fourteen points from a winning draw at Barnstaple last time out was decent, but could have been better according to skipper Paul James, who is still fettling his line-up.
“Whatever team we put out we are really just looking for some progression,” said James.
“Although we batted well last week we could have kicked on and got 30-40 more runs but lost wickets at too regular intervals.
“With the bowling I feel we are doing well although have struggled to get out numbers 10 and 11 and could have two more wins in the bag if we had.
“All together we are pleased with a young side but I am keen that the young players in the side are learning every week and putting in to practice the things they learn.”
