B Division 2nd XI: Heathcoat stretch lead

B DIVISION

HEATHCOAT maintained their unbeaten record at the top of the B Division 2nd XI table with a 74-run win over Bideford.

James Davies (60no) and Guy Bucknell (57) were the leading scorers for Heathcoat in a total of 183 for six.

Lee Dixon then took five for 33 as Bideford were skittled for 109 in reply.

Stoke Gabriel held on tight to second place in the B Division after crushing Abbotskerswell by 147 runs.

Half-centuries by Steve Tolley (61) and Jeff Baker (50), plus a near miss for Jack Tolley (47) helped Stoke reach 206 for nine.

Hayden Crocker put Abbots in the points with a five-wicket haul.

Ten-man Abbots were dismissed in reply vfor 59 with Sam Hill (5-18) and Jack Tolley (2-15) doing the damage.

Stoke are 17 points behind leaders Heathcoat and eight ahead of third-placed Alphington, who visit the Eastley Playing Fields this Saturday.

Alphiington are up from fourth to third following a hefty eight-wicket win over Brixham.

Former Devon and England Board XI batsman Andy Pugh knocked up 66 for Brixham in a total of 189 all out. Tom Hooper had 42.

Steve Hathaway (3-44) and Tim Collier (3-32) had the prime bowling figures for Alphington.

Faknar Hussain then hammered an unbeaten 104 as Alphington raced to victory. Matt Barnes (49) and Alan Davies (19) chipped in.

There are no signs of an upturn in fortunes for bottom side Shobrooke Park, who are stuck fast on the bottom following a 60-run defeat at Kingsbridge.

Dave Jollife with five for 38 and Mark Goodman with two for 16 against his old club did well to keep Kingsbridge to 154, mostly scored by Ed Church.

The chase soon went awry and Goodman (25) had the only score of note as Sean Taylor (4-19) bowled Shobrooke out for 95.

South Devon put some more distance between themselves and the wrong end of the table by handing out a 135-run trouncing to Yelverton.

Yelverton throught they had done the hard bit by limiting South Devon to 187 for nine on a good batting track at Newton Abbot. Top scorers were Ben Chadwick (47) and Matty Blackmore (37).

Skipper Chris Pearson (3-26) and Andy Taylor (4-60) took the bowling honours.

Yelverton's reply never really got going, with some poor shot selection not helping their cause as they were bowled out for a paltry 62.

Charlie Hackett bowled unchanged for figures of seven for 39 and Ian Shepherd took two for five as Yelverton were spun out in 24 overs.

Skipper Pearson top scored with 15. At one point they were 38 for six before Dan Cooper and Pearson put on 24 for the seventh wicket.

Once Cooper was dismissed with the score on 62, the innings subsided with the last four wickets falling without further addition.
