B Division 2nd XI: Taylor does old team no favours

B DIVISION 2nd XI – WEEK THREE

SOUTH Devon old boy Shaun Taylor came back to haunt his former team with a five-wicket haul as Kingsbridge handed out a hiding.

James Stacey made a best of 22 for the visiting Newtonians, who were skittled out for 79 by Taylor (5-23) and Dan Hardy (3-20).

At one stage South Devon were 39 for eight so 79 all out represented quite a recovery.

Mark Tozeland’s three for 28 meant South Devon got some consolation bowling points out of the game, but Hardy (21no) and Tony Treeby (19no) saw Kingsbridge home by five wickets.

Brixham held on for a draw nine wickets down in the game against visiting Heathcoat.

Skipper Matt Parkes (45) and Peter Moisan (37) were the leading run getters for Heathcoat in a total of 193 for eight. Rhys Dallow took three for 43.

Former Devon batsman Andy Pugh anchored the Brixham reply with 67 and after he went Joe Hyde (22no) stoppered things up.

As Lee Dixon (5-30) picked up wickets from the last two deliveries of the final over, Brixham’s last man did not have to face a ball.

Shobrooke Park went down by 26 runs against Yelverton in the basement battle between the early strugglers.

Yelverton were bottom going into the game, but have leapt two place up the table past Brixham and the new cellar dwellers… Shobrooke Park.

Yelverton opted to bat first, which seemed a good idea at 46 for none, but less so at 65 for three.

Terry Leonard (56) and Chris Cottrell, who made 13 mostly with the aid of a runner after suffering a groin strain, added 55 for the fourth.

Andy Steer (4-17) and Mark Goodman (3-25) were Shobrooke’s leading wicket takers.

Shobrooke struggled against oldie Tony Carter and youngster Dom Rushton (4-33) and were 62 for five and going nowhere fast.

Dan Cooper (2-22) reduced Shobrooke to 91 for eight and an early finish seemed on the cards.

Goodman and Dave Manning (39) put on 47 for the ninth wicket as Shobrooke got to 142 before Rushton and Andy Taylor ended their fun.

Alphington had a bad day at the office against Abbotskerswell, who bowled them out for 136 and won at a canter by eight wickets.

Sean Green led the bowling effort for Abbots with four for 39, aided by Gary Day (3-15) and Duncan Manners-Chapman (2-15).

Haydn Crocker struck and undefeated 75, and Alex Burt chipped in with 38, to put Abbots in control. Green’s 16 not out sealed it.

Stoke Gabriel cashed in on Alphigton’s misfortune to snatch third place of them thanks to a seven-wicket win over Biddford.

Youngsters Jack Tolley (4-47) and Angus Lee (3-45) did the business for Stoke, who held Bideford to 185 for eight.

Alex Crisp made 48, so did John Weeks, which doesn’t leave a lot from the rest.

Stoke’s victory charge was led by Neil Robinson with 61 and Andy Bertram with 56.

Tolley (21no) was in at the end.
