Devon call-up Benton for final cup game

DEVON conclude a disappointing Minor Counties Cup campaign on Sunday with a trip to Dunstable to play Bedfordshire in their final group game.

Devon lost to Oxfordshire and Hertfordshire in their first two games, which left them playing catch-up.

A win over Cornwall at Redruth two weeks ago fanned Devon hopes of scrambling into second place in the group, but it was not to be.

Cornwall defeated Bedfordshire and Oxfordshire over the Bank Holiday weekend to finish their programme with six points – the same as leaders Hertfordshire.

All Devon can get if they win at Dunstable is four points, which isn’t enough to finish higher than third.

Devon welcome back Rob Woodman, who missed the win at Redruth due to work commitments. He replaces Peter Bradley, whose league form alone suggests he is unlucky not to be going to Dustable.

Exmouth’s Seb Benton comes into the middle order in a reshuffled side now minus Plmpton’s Josh Mailling.

Having been 12th man in the last two games, Matt Kidd will be hoping that this time he gets a start.

Devon: R J Woodman (Taunton), R J Holman (Exeter), J E Burke (Budleigh), D F Lye (Exmouth), J J Bess (Sidmouth), S R Benton (Exmouth), M W Thompson (Torquay),. G R Chappell (Bradinch), T S Anning (Exmouth), M C Golding, C Bradley (both Bovey Tracey), M J L Kidd (Budleigh).
