Award winners and officials at Bideford CC's presentation eveningBIDEFORD celebrated a successful promotion campaign at their end of season awards night.
Around 70 members gathered at Bideford RFC to look back on the highlights of the summer.
Top of the list was promotion back to the B Division three years after they were relegated from it.
Bideford won the C Division with a game to spare, finishing with 15 wins from 18 matches.
James Ford, the Bideford skipper, made it plain at the start of the season he was gunning for promotion this season. For him it was mission accomplished.
We narrowly missed out in 2012 so I knew we would be capable of challenging,” said Ford.
“Although I’ve won leagues with other clubs I didn’t think we would dominate C Division in the way that we did.
In terms of achievement and satisfaction it’s been an excellent season and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it
“Everyone contributed; knew their roles and with the continuing emergence and development of some of our younger lads - I opened the bowling with two very promising 17 year olds all season - and the addition of perhaps one or two new players, I think we can be really competitive in ‘B’ next year.”
“Those comments were echoed by club chairman Kevin Fishleigh, who added: “I watched most of the games at Westward Ho! and saw a settled side that was well led, focused, motivated and consistently played some very decent cricket.
“I was especially pleased to see a number of lads who were with me in the club’s academy have now come through to establish themselves in the side.
“That shows their progress and development to take responsibility and perform consistently is not only being managed properly but actively encouraged too.”
Fishleigh said there were plenty of highlights over the season apart from winning promotion.
“The Somerset benefit match was a memorable occasion; our overseas lad Jordy Gilmore (pictured colleting his batting award from Tom Allin) did exceptionally well to average more than 50 overall with the bat and two of our younger players - Rose Ball and Alex Hannam - have had national and county recognition,” he said.
“Off the field I’ve had the support of some very good people around me to make some significant improvements in the ground infrastructure.
“Next year will bring new different challenges but I think we will be well equipped to cope with the higher standard and continue with our efforts to put the club back where it needs to be – towards the top of North Devon cricket.”
Notable winners of awards who had their trophies presented by club professional

Gilmore also finished the leading run scorer with an aggregate of 1,600 just 35 short of setting a new club record for an overseas player.
Fred King the club’s leading bowler with 63 wickets from all cricket received the Saturday First XI award
Jamie Lathwell (left), only 13, took the 2nd XI plaudits with 20 wickets for an outstanding full debut in adult senior cricket.

Matthew Shepherd, 18, clinched the George Keen Trophy for scoring more than 1,000 runs while Australia-bound Josh King swept the board with the fielding accolades.
Popular 2nd XI captain John Weeks was also honoured by several of his younger charges, who presented him with a special monogrammed shirt in appreciation of his skills and efforts in introducing and integrating them into the club’s adult sides.
Clubman of the year was reserved for holidaying Issac ‘Ike’ Aviston who as project manager completely re-designed and rebuilt the club’s new and impressive electronic scorebox.
