Torquay's ace spinner heads home
TORQUAY'S South African spin bowler Jan Bothma has gone home with a month of the season to go after finally succumbing to long-standing back trouble.
Bothma - who has taken 38 wickets - has been a huge part of the Torquay success story this season.
He leaves the club top of the A Division table and on course to return to the Premier Division in 2012.
Skipper Justin Yau said he was sad to see Bothma (pictured) go before promotion was achieved, but it was necessary for the player's well being.
'We have sent him home to get his back sorted,’ said Yau.
'Jan has been a brilliant performer and has won games at will for us this year. He will be sorely missed
'Hopefully we have done enough of the hard work already and losing him now isn't as bad as it would have been eight weeks ago.
'We just wish him well for a speedy recovery and hope he regains full fitness again in the near future.
'Jan was absolutely gutted when he was told he was missing the run in, but for the long term it was the best solution.
'It gives other people chances to make a real difference and put their hand up to put in strong performances.'
