DEVON are hoping it will be third time lucky with the weather when they face Bedfordshire at Bovey Tracey on Bank Holiday Monday (11am) in the Minor Counties Trophy.Devon’s first two group games have fallen foul of the weather – and they only have two left in which to secure qualification for the knockout stages.
Cornwall are in the same boat, but Bedfordshire have a game in hand over their rivals, which is a definite advantage should they win it.
The picture may be a little clearer by Sunday night as Bedfordshire play Devon on the way back from facing Cornwall at Truro.
Devon have named a 13-man squad for the match, with opener Rob Woodman and spinner Gary Chappell added to the side party named for the washout against Cornwall last Sunday. Third-man in Rob Holman is not available.
Bovey supporters will be keeping their fingers crossed that local favourite Ryan Bougourd is selected for his debut.
Bougourd has been in both previous squads – Hertfordshire and Cornwall – but denied the chance due to bad weather.
“It has been an ambition of mine for a long time to play for Devon – and I felt I had a good chance of playing in the two games that were rained off,” said Bougourd, who joined Bovey from Shaldon Optimists 11 years ago.
“Although I would have liked to have played before now, if it turns out my first game is at Bovey Tracey that would be fantastic.”
