No love lost between Bradninch and Lewdown

BRADNINCH remain second in the A Division table after routing lowly Lewdown by eight wickets.

Lewdown skipper Harry Geering warned his batters before the game they had to deal with Bradninch left-armer Ross Acton as he had already run through them once this season.

The Moorlanders had South African run maching Marco Marais then, but not anymore as he has returned home for treatment on a leg injury.

The message didn’t get through though as Acton took five for 15 as Lewdown were all out for 98. Acton’s figures against Lewdown this season are nine for 50.

Said Geering: “I said we needed to stop Acton doing any damage – and five for 14 later…

“With the ball they have the best bowler in the division, followed by an attack that are about D Division standard.

“We just lost to many wickets to Acton to capitalise on the rest.”

Acton took four in a row including leading scorer Dave Ball (27) as Lewdown collapsed to 46 fo six.

Gian Botha (3-5) whittled out the tail after Bradinch had been delayed by Ant Weeks (16) and Phil Yeo (26).

Greg Maher (31no) and Acton (27) got Bradninch off to a 50-run start.

Acton and Joe Webb went close together, but Dan Hardy with 27 not out saw it through with Kiwi Maher.

Bradninch captain Tim Piper gave as good as he got from Geering in his post-match summing up.

“After their top and middle order struggled, it was game over really.

I suppose if they had a strike bowler, they could have given us a scare, but in the end it was a bit easy.

“Ball, looked their only decent player that I would want to pick in a Bradninch team – just like the last time we played them.

“They have to now be aware of how much carrying Marco Marais has actually done for the last few years, even if they don't want to admit it.”

On his own side’s performance, Piper said: “Even though we bowled them out for less than 100 we didn't bowl or field anywhere near our best, except for an unbelievable run-out from Greg Maher.

“We'll need to improve from the level we were at against Lewdown when we play the better teams.”

Second-bottom Abbotskerswell are the opposition this Saturday.
