Bradninch determined to go all the way

BRADNINCH want to go all the way in the A Division this season’s after last summer’s near miss.

Skipper Tim Piper had the team in the top two at halfway, but they fluffed their lines in the second half and finished third behind Paignton and Plympton.

Piper couldn’t wait any longer for Premier cricket and has left for Torquay in search of it.

Dan Hardy is the new man at the Kensham Park helm and he is looking at going one better in 2015.

“Last year was extremely frustrating as we got into a good position then let ourselves down,” said Hardy.

“This year we have a very different set of players and so much more depth.

“I feel we have made some good signings, not just ability wise but good lads and good personalities.”

Hardy also wants to change the mindset at the club and in particular the approach to matches.

Piper became well known last season for not being afraid to speak his mind – and one or two comments came back to haunt him. Hardy is going to be a bit more low key.

“If we lose a game it’s gone and our focus will be on winning the next one rather than what went wrong,” said Hardy.

When Hardy says he has a new look team this year, he isn’t kidding. Piper, Jack Horton and Joe Webb have all gone.

The list of incomers is headed by former Devon and Warwickshire spinner Chris Metters, now converted to a batsman after shoulder trouble, who was registered with Exmouth last season but only appeared once.

Seamer Luandre van Wyk has arrived from Sandford and brought batter Laurence May with him.

Josh Cann, a Devon age-group keeper-batter, has switched from Feniton.

Lawrence Greenway adds another batting and bowling option having left Exmouth for Bradninch.

Abdul Zuffar – an opening bowler at Exeter University – has also signed on.

Finally, ex-MCC young cricketer Charlie Walker will be playing having switched from the Kent League. He has played Minor Counties cricket for Herefordshire.
