STEVE Rew starred with the bat to set Dartington & Totnes on course for a 21-run win over Abbotskerswell in Monday night’s rearranged Brockman Cup final at Torquay.
Bad weather put paid to Friday night’s first attempt at playing the final – and there was rain in the air before the replay started.
Rew and James Nicholls were D&T’s top scorers with 46 and 31 respectively in a 20-over total of 135 for eight.
The pair put on exactly 80 for the second wicket after the early demise of Mike Jarvis, who was cleaned up by Dave Palmer.
Tom Andrew accounted for Nichols then Rew on his way to figures of three for 30 as D&T slowed in the last quarter.
A tidy spell of three for 19 from Connor Adams stopped D&T making too much progress.
Abbots got a start through their 16-year-old captain Charlie Mitchell (23), whose dad Paul (16) played the anchorman role as the father-and-son openers put on 25.
Had Tom Andrew - 38 off 25 balls – seen more of the strike Abbots may have gone on to win it.
He didn’t and a succession of single-figure dismissals at the other end scuppered Abbots’ chances a well before they were dismissed for 114 with two overs to go.
The wickets were shared around with Matt Haw (3-18) the most effective.
The man of the match award – the Bill Stanbury Cup – was awarded to D&T’s Alex Hartridge (right) for taking two wickets and a direct-hit run-out. Above is skipper Mick Rusling with the cup
