Semi-final draw made for Brockman Cup

HOLDERS Paignton relinquished their grip on the Brockman Cup when Abbotskerswell defeated them by 31 runs in the last of the quarter-final games.

Abbots were always in a healthy position after racking up 149 for six.

Charlie Mitchell opened up with 56, Rachav Pratap chipped in with 33 and Aron Owen added 21.

Only Charlie Slough (2-20) had much luck with the ball.

Paignton ran out of time at 118 for seven having been behind the clock from the start after losng Noah Wright, Joel Ashworth and Dan Wolf cheaply.

Connor Ashworth bashed 51 and Mark Ashworth made 15, but the damage had been done before they got going.

Hugo Whitlock (3-13) took the bowling laurels, although there was a tidy spell for little reward from Pratap (1-18).

Waiting for Abbots in the semi-final at Torquay on June 13 are Lustleigh, who defeated Chelston by nine wickets.

Foot batted through for an undefeated 64 as Lustleigh cantered into the last four of the Brockman Cup.

Chelston were held to 87 for nine in their 20 overs – Mark Faulkner making a top score of 28.

Kazi Szymanski (16) and veteran Graham Webster (13) chipped in.

All the Lustleigh bowlers kept it tight, starting with young opeing bowler Ollie Bateman (0-15 off four) with wickets falling to Foot (2-1) and Anthony Thekkepalakkal (2-6) at the end.

Lustleigh lost Shaun Wright to Faulkner, but Foot and Mike Wright ensued there were no slip ups and an early finish in the 15th over.

The second semi-final on Monday, June 16 will feature Dartington & Totnes and Ipplepen, who defeated Stoke Gabriel and Babbacombe respectively.

D & T were a 41-run winners over Stoke Gabriel.

Darts got over a shaky start – Mike Jarvis, James Nicholls and Neil Colgate going cheaply – before Kevan Throgmorton dug in to make 42.

James Ridge (3-17) and Seb Ansley (2-12) posed problems with the ball, but Tom Pethick (13) and Andrew Bligh (15) helped D&T rustle up 111 for six.

Stoke ran into early difficulties against Alex Hartridge (2-17) and Bligh (2-22) and Dave Higgins 28 not out came too late to salvage the situation.

Mick Rusling (3-14) mopped up the tail – the last four managing one run between them – as Stoke declined to 70 all out.

Ipplepen beat Babbacombe in a last-ball finish on Tuesday night. Matt Inch hit 32 not out for Babbacombe in a total of 122 for seven. Harry Lewis took two for 18.

Pens, needing 55 to win off the last five overs, got there thanks to a wide!

Simon Tapley made 62 against one of his former clubs and Adam Peters (24no) chipped in.
