B DivisionBARTON skipper Adam Parker won’t want any slip ups when his table-topping side go to bottom club Axminster.
The lead is only two points after the win over Barnstaple and with Chudleigh and Hatherleigh pressing the race to the finish line is on.
“Another good result for us last week saw us hit the top, the hard work now really begins if we are to be there in nine weeks time.
“It is a great position to be in and we will be looking to continue the superb team efforts and keep on stringing together the positive results.”
Sean Adderley comes back into contention in an otherwise unchanged squad.
Tavistock are looking to build on their win over Thorverton and keep climbing the table when they face Dartington.
“They have been a bit of a bogey side to us, be we are hitting form now and confident so looking for a win,” said skipper Shaun Daymond.
Ian Gray is back but Sean Cleave and Wayne Downham are missing.”
Promotion hopefuls Chudleigh are aiming to bounce back from their defeat by former leaders Hatherleigh when they welcome Alphington to Kate Brook.
Barton’s win over Barnstaple propelled them past Hatherleigh and Chudleigh into top spot, so the chasers have some work to do.
Jon Martin, the Chudleigh captain, is still fuming about the loss at Hatherleigh and keen to redress the loss.
“It was demoralising to lose a game where for threequarters of it we were on top and should have won easily,” he said.
“But we are still in a very good position just eight points behind Barton and six off Hatherleigh and there is a long way to go.”
Batsman Lance Ames comes in to strengthen the top order and add some experience.
Alphington are almost unchanged apart from Tom Weeks dropping down to the 2nd XI with recent re-signing Nathan Bright (Budleigh) coming straight in.
Having slipped up against Lewdown last time out, skipper Paul James is looking for a response.
“WE did well to keep them down to below 180 and then struggled with the bat,” said James.
“This week we need to take our bowling and fielding performance forward from last week while adding a decent batting performance with it.”
Elsewhere, Lewdown are at home to Thorverton while Hatherleigh go to Barnstaple & Pilton.
