STOKE Gabriel were brought down to earth after their win over leaders Heathcoat when they lost by 50 runs at Bideford.
Andy Webbe (80) and Dan Barrett (35no) were among the runs in Bideford’s 224 for seven. Sam Hill and Steve Tolley had two wickets each.
Despite a battling 53 from Neil Robinson and 30 from Tolley, Stoke were bowled out for 174 with Josh King (5-46) the pick of the bowlers.
Stoke, at home to South Devon this Saturday, stay second but have drifted 19 points off the pace.
Heathcoat bounced back from their defeat by Stoke Gabriel with an eight-wicket win over visiting Brixham.
Only two players – Tim Robinson (15) and Wes Fowler (14) reached double figures as Brixham were bowled out for 64. Martyn Williams (4-14) led the way; Darron Drew (2-19) and Kevin Johnson (2-12) assisted.
James Davis (23) and Tom Rossiter (25) made light work of the run chase as Heathcoat went 19 points clear of Stoke, who lost by 50 runs at Bideford.
Shobrooke Park took a tanning in the basement clash with Yelverton which leaves them 50 points away from safety and winless with six games to go.
Dave Jolliffe (23) and Pete Rose (20) had the only scores of note as veteran bowlers Chris Pearson and Andy Taylor pinned Shobrooke down.
Peter Carland (54) put Yelverton on the way to victory by six wickets.
Alphington beat Abbotkskerswell by seven wickets to close the gap on second-placed Stoke Gabriel to 19 points.
Veteran Andy Lock hit a top score of 65 as Abbots were bowled out for 117 by Andy Wilson (4-18) and Tim Collier (3-20).
Matt Barnes (27) and Sayeed Hussain (27) broke the back of the chase, although Hugo Whitlock (2-8) did pose a few problems.
South Devon took no chances against fellow strugglers Kingsbridge, blocking out for a draw when all hope of winning had gone.
Sean Taylor (41) and Tony Treeby (40) were the leading scorers in Kings; 234 for nine. Charlie Hackett, Cameron Scott and George Burningham had two wickets each for South Devon.
Taylor then took four for 21 against his old club, who were clinging on at 179 for nine when the overs ran out.
Dan Ball hit 52 and there were handy contributions from Burningham (28) and Brian Allen (32).
