B Division 2nd XI: Pugh ton not enough

B DIVISION 2nd XI

AN Andy Pugh century wasn’t enough to give Brixham victory in the B Division derby tussle with Stoke Gabriel at Boundary Park.

Pugh, the former Devon and England Board XI batsman, rattled along to 119 all out in a Brixham total of 218 for four.

Skipper Wes Fowler (36no) was in at the end with Pugh. Sam Hill (3-34) was the pick of the Stoke bowlers.

Stoke won a thrilling game with a ball to spare and two wickets in hand.

Golden oldie Doug Ansley hit 56, but the star of the show with an undefeated 46 was colt Andy Ball.

South Devon slipped to a predictable defeat against leaders Heathcoat at Marsh Road.

Matt Blackmore made 64 but the next best off the bat for South Devon in a total of 152 for seven was Neil Matthews (2-18).

Kev Johnson, Darron Drew and 14-year-old son Jamie Drew had two wickets each for Heathcoat.

Steve Harding (60) and Matt Parkes (20) gave Heathcoat a start, then Sam Lockwood and Sean Andrews saw Heathcoat home with a pair of 26 not outs with 12 overs to go.

Harding has now scored 98, 102 and 60 in his last three games. As the 1st XI were bowled out for 50 by North Devon last time out promotion seems inevitable.

Abbotskerswell stay in second place behind leaders Heathcoat after winning by three wickets at Kingsbridge.

Old boys Tony Treeby (3-56) and Sean Taylor (4-35) ensured it wasn’t plain sailing for Abbots, but Guy Harrison-Roberts (45) laid the foundations then Paul Acton (25) and Crocker (14) got the job completed.

Bideford drew with Yelveton in a game which was reduced to 25 overs a side due to bad weather.

In-form Alex Crisp (68) and Pete Macmillan (26) put on 49 for the third wicket and Ed Binns (21no) helped Crisp reach 176 for four in 23 overs, when Biddy skipper Jon Weeks to declare early.

Yelverton were 57 for two in reply – effectively three down as Chris Cottrell had retired hurt with groin trouble – and at that point the game started to fizzle out.

AndyTaylor (29) and Terry Leonard (28no) steeredYelverton towards 105 for four at the close
