Plympton see lead cut at top

PLYMPTON’S lead at the top of the A Division has been cut to seven points following a 34-run defeat at Budleigh.

Budleigh made 218 for seven in their 50 overs – led from the top by former Plymouth College pupil James Burke with 58.

Burke, now on Somerset’s books and dual-registered to play for Devon, put on 105 for the first wicket with Harry Parkin (44) Jack Dart chipped in with 46.

Plympton’s bowling was unremarkable. There were three wickets for Ross Farrer and two or Ryan Skinner.

Plympton were 120 for two at halfway in reply, Dan Robotham (38) and Josh Mailling (24) leading the way, assisted by a hefty helping of extras.

James Leat (4-43) got into the middle order and with Joel Murphy (2-26) and Luke Peterson (2-30) chipping in Plympton were all out for 184.

Skipper James Carr said Plympton could only blame themselves for losing.

“Budleigh should have only got 190, and would have had it not been for over throws and misfields, “ said Carr.

“We were happy chasing 220 and confident getting it - and at drinks we were cruising.

“Then we lost a couple of wickets, but only needed 50 off 10 overs with four wickets left and should have won.

“Budleigh bowled and fielded well and unfortunately we lost.”
