SEATON dragged back the old boys for their meeting with Hatherleigh, but even that couldn’t save them from a nine-wicket defeat.
Two players from Seaton’ Premier Division days - ex-Devon seamer Mike Cottam and former captain Greg Foxwell – were roped in to help out.
Only Foxwell (42) and Charlie Clode (21) made much of an impression as the side were bowled out for just 132.
Mark Lake took four ffor 54 and there were two wickets each for Nick Rogers and Simon Gillespie.
That was no problem for visiting Hatherleigh who lost just the one wicket in the run chase.
Tom Rogers was the man out – Cottam the wicket taker – which left Hugh Romans and Rob Chapman to knock off t runs.
With six to play and three points between them and the drop zone, Seaton are next in action on Saturday with a simply must win fixture at win less, bottom of the table Cockington.
Clyst Hydon stay on station behind Lewdown at the top of the table following a hefty 120-run win over doomed Cockington.
Clinton Lewis top scored for Hydon with 73 not out and there were chip ins from Chris Jelley (48) and Ian Sutton (44) towards a total of 241 for six declared.
Brian Burrrows – Cockington’s 69 year-old bowler – picked up two for 21.
Cockington were bowled out for 121 in reply with Nandana Hatarusingha (5-21) doing most of the damage. Neil Colegate made 45 and Burrows 29 for the losers.
Leaders Lewdown caught Ivybridge on an off day and made them pay!
Rob Mutch top scored with 83, and Mark Jordan made 47, as Lewdown raced to 252 for nine. Paul Veale (3-53) and Jeewan deSilva (4-53) had the pick of the bowling figures.
Jordan (4-14) leed the bowling effort assisted by Charlie Hughes, Phil Yeo and Mutch with two wickets each as the Bridgers were skittled for 80.
Ashburton settled for a draw against Kingsbridge after realising 258 to win was going to be beyond them.
Bhanu deSilva was the main man for Kingsbridge with an anchorman 68 in their total of 257 for five.
The Sri Lankan all-rounder put 93 for the second wicket with James Fletcher (52) and 60 with Chris Bowles, who went on to top score with 80.
Ashes were never really up with the asking rate and not even a stand of 71 between Ashley Harvey (38) and Chris Pascoe (26) could make up for lost time.
Ashley Harvey contributed 38 towards the Ashes total of 185 for seven.
Matt Smyth put the skids under Bideford with a five-wicket haul to point Stoke Gabriel towards a 57-run win.
Stoke’s 167 all out – Karl Blackburn (40) and Simon Phillips (31) – didn’t look to be enough.
James Ford spun his way to four for 39 while Matt Bettis picked up two for 44.
Nick Sandbrook got the early breaks Stoke needed by nipping out dangermen Matt Allin and Mike Young on the cheap.
Although Josh King made 50 he was the only one to resist as Smyth (5-39), Sandbrook (3-25) and Andy Lockyer (2-9) shot out Bideford for 110.
