OTTERY St Mary were involved in a thrilling finish at Bidford where they finished two runs short of victory and had to be content with a draw.
Skipper and opener James Ford was Bideford's anchorman with 58 off 137 balls and was eighth man out in a final total of 189 for nine.
Along the way Ford shared in a stand of 94 with Will Barratt, who made 55 off 60 balls. No one else made more than 10.
Ottery's Rob Johns picked up four for 42 and there were three wickets for 28 runs in 12 tidy overs for Will Harrison.
Ottery recovered from being nine for two thanks to Adrian Pullin (34), George Biggs (33) and Jack Pritchard (61) nibbling away at the deficit.
The key knock was Pritchard's as his 61 off 48 balls, which included a stand of 37 for the sixth wicket with skipper Jody Clements (28 off 11 balls) got Bideford up with the clock.
The last over arrived with Pritchard and Harrison together, Ford bowling his off-spin and five needed to win.
Ottery shaved three off the target then Pritchard departed caught and bowled to the fourth ball.
Joe Birch couldn't put bat to ball and Ottery closed on 188 for nine.
Going into the second half of the season, Ottery sit fourth in the table and closer to the top than the bottom in real points terms.
Skipper Clements is pleased with his side's start to life in the C Division, but not getting carried away.
"I do not want us to get ahead of ourselves, but we will continue to try and play positive cricket," said Clements.
"Our next two games are against the sides in the relegation places and our ambitions for the season should be lot clearer after we have played them.
"Generally we finish the season well. Our batsmen are beginning to score some runs which bodes well, and the bowlers continue to do a great job."
CLYST Hydon remain anchored to the foot of the C Division table following a 65-run defeat by new leaders Stoke Gabriel.
Clyst were unlucky enough to run into Stoke's Aussie all-rounder Anthony Scott on day when he could not put a foot wrong - and paid heavily.
It all looked pretty rosy when Stoke were 93 for nine with last man Adam Castle newly arrived in the middle to join Scott.
Clinton Lewis (3-32), assisted by Kevin Sercombe (2-28) and Will Thornton (2-30) appeared to have done the hard bit for Hydon.
Scott and Castle put on 63 for the last wicket to reach 156 all out. Scott made 98 while Castle has the grand total of six!
Clyst Hydon's reply started disastrously and at 35 for six they were facing a pasting. George Pawley did make 38, but with Scott (4-11), Sean Dwyer (3-15) and Rob Burnie (2-13) striking regularly there was no way back.
It does not get much easier for Clyst Hydon this Saturday as they are away to third-placed Ipplepen.
The top-of-the-table clash between leaders Chagford and second-placed Chagford only lasted 12 overs before rain stopped play. Ipplepen were 45 for one at the time.
CLYST St George are still looking for their first league win of the season after suffering a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Ivybridge.
The frailties of Clyst's middle order batting were exposed for all to see as a promising 80 for four at halfway became 95 all out.
The turning point was the departure of skipper Steve Bourke for a top score of 33.
Pete Abraham (3-16) had already been among the wickets and once Bourke went Jeewan de Silva (3-5) and Paul Veale (3-15) helped themselves.
Chris Cook (2-21) slowed Ivybridge for a while, but Toby Borrow (24), Kelvin Trent (17no) and DeSilva (12no) had no real problems chasing down the target.
ASHBURTON had a bad day at the office against Kingsbridge, who walloped them by 154 runs.
Ricky Carr led the way for Kingsbridge with 82 not out, Ashley Treeby made an unbeaten 55 and with James Fletcher (38) and James Westlake (50) chipping in a total of 257 for three was hoisted.
Wickets - at a price - went to Ashley Harvey (1-56), Gordon Colwill (1-85) and Dom Durman (1-65).
Ashburton reached 50 for one with Chris Pascoe (30) in charge of the bowling, then it all went awry.
Five wickets fell for 16 runs and it was downhill all the way to 103 all out. Neil Peach had four for 19, Bhanu DeSilva picked up three for 31 and Ben Glover ad two for 24.
