IPPLEPEN face an immediate test of their promotion mettle when Alphington visit Moor Lane on Saturday.
The Pens took over at the top of the C Division table last time out when they won by nine wickets at Plymouth CS&R.
South Devon were top of the table. But their game against Clyst Hydon was rained off.
Pens’ 22-point maximum hoisted them four points clear of South Devon.
Alphington, currently third in the table, will prove a stiff test for Pens.
Caleb Gaylard scythed through the Civil order to take seven for 16 as the home side were skittled out for 80.
They were 16 for five and 38 for eight and only got to 80 thanks to a stand of 40 for the ninth wicket between John Sharp (22) and Chris Newton (19).
Pens’ skipper Keith Wakeham (2-0) eventually put an end to the fun.
Ipplepen opener Tom Dyer carried his bat for 43 and knocked off the last 40 to win with Matt Quartley (22no).
CLYST Hydon’s eagerly awaited clash with promotion-chasing South Devon was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.Clyst skipper Ian Sutton is beginning to wonder what his side has to do to get a game on this season?
“Four games into the season we have only played once because of the rain,” said Sutton.
Sutton will hope for better weather when his side visit Dartington this Saturday.
SOUTH Devon will be looking to regain top spot in the C Division when they entertain Chagford.
While South Devon were left without a game last Saturday – they were rained off at Clyst Hydon – Ipplepen beat Plymouth CS&R to go past them.
The Pens entertain Alphington, whose game against visiting Kingsbridge was something of a non-event.
Andy Shepherd made 30 and acting captain Dave Haysom was unbeaten on 36 when rain stopped play with Alphington on 89 for four.
Chagford were on the rack against Shaldon when rain stopped play.
With Del Lammonby making 35 and Divan Marais unbeaten on 38, Chagford had reached 102 for four. Then they ran into trouble against Seamus McKenna, who had unstitched Clyst Hydon seven days earlier.
McKenna took three wickets in one over on his way to figures of seven for 23 as Chagford stumbled to 120 for eight when rain saved Chagford from further punishment.
