NEW boys Clyst Hydon made a winning start in the C Division with a 45-run win over Clyst St George.
Rob O’Connell top scored on 73 for Clyst in a total of 218 for nine.
Clyst’s George Randall-Johnson took four for 54 then made 40 when his side batted.
Liam Cook (29) and Paul Laverick (25) chipped in, but Duncan Sykes (3-53) and Richard Martin (3-3) held sway with the ball to dismiss St George for 173.
Ottery wrapped up an eight-wicket win over Axminster after bowing them out for 83 with seven overs to go. Zac Johns and Rob Crabbe had three wickets each.
Lewis Biggs (30) got the chase started, leaving it to Crabbe (20no) and Ali Dean (25no) to wrap it up.
Thorverton trounced Ivybridge by 160 runs with Matt Millward (88) in sparking form with the bat.
Jock Spry took five for 23 as Ivybridge were bowled out for 68 in reply to the home side’s 228 for four declared.
Simon Tapley signed in as Ipplepen 2nd XI captain with 75 in the 80-run win over Cornwood.
Tapley, who has had a long career around the Devon League with Torquay, Barton, Babbacombe and latterly Ipplepen is one of a handful of players with a double ton to his name. He made it for Barton against Budleigh Salterton way back in 1997.
With Steve Harris hitting 57 and Jonny Ranjit 33, the Pens stacked up 236 for six.
Harris (3-34) and Sewell (3-30) sent Cornwood on their way for 156 – Phil Bees (33) and Paul Skeemer (28) posting the best scores.
