9th wicket stand crucial as Devon secure semi final spot
Devon U17 Girls (121-8) beat Cheshire U17 Girls (77 all out) by 44 runs
On Saturday 22nd August Devon U17s travelled up to the picturesque ground of Cherry Hill, near Malpas to play their quarter final tie against Cheshire. Devon batted first and made a hesitant start. The third wicket partnership of 27 between Vicky Bowden (24) and Giselle Ansley (28) looked promising but after both were out Devon slumped to 76-8 against Cheshire's slow bowlers, which was backed up by three athletic catches. Devon were rescued however by an unbroken 9th wicket partnership of 45 between Rebecca Donohue (29 no) and Ellie Hall (9 no). A score of 121 from 45 overs may have been a little below par but the recovery encouraged devon to believe that they had a total that they could defend.

Cheshire's reply revolved around Lorna Thomas who took the attack to Devon's bowlers. However, after she was out skying a catch off Clara Nielson for 42, Cheshire collapsed to 77 all out. Nicole Richards took 4-12 and Giselle Ansley 4-8. Rebecca Donohue was 'woman of the mathc' for a captain's innings of 29 not out, which rescued her side.
