CHUDLEIGH are off the mark at last in the A Division thanks to a 76-run win over Brixham.
The Kate Brook side hadn’t won a game since clinching promotion from the B Division last season so one was long overdue.
Sachintha Galhenage stroked his way to 113 off 127 balls as Chudleigh reached 232 for six.
Along the way he shared a stand of 153 for the fifth wicket with Dan Britcliffe, who made a season’s best of 62 not out.
Rob Clarke was the only other Chudleigh batter to make it past 10.
There were two wickets each for Craig Eaves and Lee Upham in the Brixham bowling analysis.
Brixham’s cause wasn’t helped by picking up three injuries in the field – Mark Orchard ,Andy Lewin and skipper Andy Pugh – although all of them made runs.
Pugh had 21, Orchard 64 and Lewin 19 – but from numbers six onwards the batting flopped.
Faisal Khaliq (3-14) removed the front-end batters then Galhenage (4-15) spun though most of the rest as Brixham collapsed from 147 for six to 156 all out in the space of five overs.
“Chudleigh played well and the partnership between Galhenage and Britcliffe was crucial,” said Brixham skipper Pugh.
“We’ve got injuries to worry about and Paignton will be a struggle this Saturday.”
For Chudleigh skipper Ed Foreman it was a corner turned after a tough start to the season.
“I am really happy that all the hard work the boys have put in recently has been rewarded,” said Foreman.
“To get our first win against a top side is brilliant. It is now a question of staying focused and concentrating on each game at a time.
“For the first time this year we put more than 200 on the board.
“We always knew any team would struggle to chase 200 with our bowling attack.
“Sach batted brilliantly, with great support from Dan, and did what he has been threatening to do ever since he got here.
“We need to keep learning and improving as a side to make the most of this season.”
