THERE will be no play at St Austell today in the Minor Counties game between Cornwall and Devon.Players started arriving around 9am at Wheel Eliza to find the ground underwater in places.
The cut strip is badly waterlogged in places as water has got in under the covers overnight.
Skipper Chris Bradley was at the ground early this morning and, having chatted to the groundsman, was brought up to speed on the prospects of play.
“I was shown some pictures taken last night and the ground was just about underwater then,” said Bradley.
“It has dried out considerably since then, but it is still very wet in places and there is a large puddle on the wicket.”
Umpires Steve Malone and Geoff Calloway made their decision shortly after 10am this morning.
Assuming the ground is fit tomorrow, play will start half an hour early at 10.30am and continue for an additional half an hour in then final session until 7.30pm.
Devon have been forced to make one change to their travelling party as Bradninch’s Matt Golding dropped out yesterday. Budleigh Salterton’s Jack Dart has been brought in for 12th man duties.
Bovey Tracey’s Peter Bradley is guaranteed his debut in the county side as Golding has dropped out.
