CORNWOOD captain Jason Hall said some standards were set in the win over Sandford that need maintaining over the season.
An unchanged side goes to Cornwood tomorrow boosted by the 123-run win over Sandford.
Hall said there was room for improvement, but early signs were encouraging with bat and ball.
“From a good position and targeting maximum batting points, some poor shots left us short, however a reasonable starting platform to build on in coming weeks,” said Hall.
Hall was impressed by the bowling and fielding effort, which dispatched Sandford for 72, saying: “Hopefully this standard can continue over the season.”
Sidmouth champions in 2012 and runners-up last year will be substantially tougher than newly promoted Sandford.
“This week we travel to Sidmouth, one of the form teams over recent years in the Premier Division with an array of excellent players in the ranks whom I am sure will be one of the teams competing for the title again,” said Hall.
“They have some dangerous players who can easily take the game away from you.
“Whilst we will always look to win games if the situation arrives, we need to look to play smart cricket against the likes of Sidmouth and Exmouth etc, in order to compete at this level and pick up as many points as we can across the season in trying to improve on last year’s position.”
