School Coaches Night

Working with the Devon Cricket League Chairman, an Ex-Warwickshire Professional Cricketer, and the Devon Premier League leading run scorer in 2013 was going to be a challenging task for our tutors. Pulling together these varied knowledge bases wasn’t going to be easy.

However, Steve Pritchard facilitated an excellent hour and a half master class on Create Development ideas around ‘the cog theory’ and how this could be integrated with a cricket spin in a school environment. With some fascinating discussions around various drills and ideas, all punctuated with ongoing laughter by all attendees, the first half of the evening concluded with 15 coaches taking away new ideas and confidence at working within primary and secondary schools.

With the unenviable task of follow Steve Pritchard, Scott Chappell took up the reigns of the evening to guide the attendees through a workshop of innovative games. It would be fair to say these brought out the coaches competitive side, but was all it the right spirit. Unfortunately Ilfracombe’s Peter Wright had to sit out the last twenty minute’s after the frequency of running involved in the evening had got the better of his right calf muscle!

All in all a fantastic evening had, with some outstanding sharing of best practice and ideas. It even goes to show that Devon Over 60’s player Stuart Munday can still have fun with blue plastic bats and balls.
