STOKE Gabriel put their defeat at Kingsbridge behind them by handing out an 83-run hiding to Hatherleigh.
Runs were what skipper Dave Bolland wanted after the team were bowled out for 58 at Kingsbridge, and runs are what he got with a total of 265 for eight.
Mark Newman anchored the innings with 62, putting on 120 for the second wicket with Karl Blackburn and 40 for the third with Andy Lockyer (25).
Newman as finally out for 62, but the runs kept on coming with Rob Baker (23), Simon Phillips (23) and Jamie Day (22) all chipping in.
Veteran Richard Tidball (4-65) was the pick of the Hatherleigh bowlers.
Phillips was the start turn with the ball when Stoke Gabriel fielded, taking four for 28. Lockyer, Matt Smyth and Bolland had two wickets each.
Tom Rogers made 29, Andy Collier 30 and Rob Chapman 33 in the 41 overs Hatherleigh survived before being bowled out for 182.
ASHBURTON did well to take a respectable draw from their game against Clyst Hydon.
The Ashes had five regulars missing, which isn’t ideal against one of the sides tipped to feature in the promotion race.
Chris Jelley made 103 for Clyst and shared in stand of 23, 124 and 67 before he was dismissed.
Ali Feather (41) also chipped in to the total of 241 for four.
Tom Durman (1-11), Kris Connabeer (1-41), Dean Topping (1-35) and Steve Harvey (1-34) all took a wicket for Ashes and did not flinch their roles. Powerful batting, rather than poor bowling, was the order of the day.
Ashburton held on for a draw at 198 for five with opener Kev Nicholls unbeaten on 87.
Nicholls won some admirers in the Clyst camp for surviving a barrage of quick stuff from Sri Lankan paceman Danesh Nandana (1-49).
The other six batters got into double figures but could not convert into larger scores. The innings just failed to pick up the fifth bonus point at 198 for five.
A solid performance earned Ashes a well-deserved draw and welcome points
Jelly (2-30) was the most effective of the wicket takers.
COCKINGTON were comprehensively beaten at home by Lewdown, who only lost one wicket chasing down 64 to win.
Lewdown’s lively South African Rob Mutch proved too much for Cockington to cope with, taking eight wickets for 23 runs.
Acting captain James Howrihane, deputising for the unavailable Andy Hele, made 32 to ‘rescue’ Cockington from losing their first six wickets for just five runs.
The run chase was a formality as Craig Harris (30no) and Harry Geering (27no) did the necessary after the early loss of Davie Ball to Jimmy Allen.
BEN Copp and Ben Morgan combined to gun down Kingsbridge and give Seaton a 114-run win at Court Lane.
Kingsbridge, chasing 240 to win, were bundled out for 125 with Jon Rosewarne (38) and Ashley Treeby (26) the only batters to linger against Copp (4-26) and Morgan (3-40).
Earlier, Mark Bray (61) and Charlie Cload (82) led the Seaton batting effort with a stand of 74.
Kings’ spinner Bhanu deSilva had four Seaton wickets for 47 runs and Neil Peach two for 52.
AUSSIE Mike Young cracked an unbeaten 145 to put Bideford in the driving seat against Ivybridge.
Bideford lost openers James Ford and Matt Allin in the first two overs, but Young and Andy Webbe pulled things around with a stand of 110 for the third wicket.
Young, who hit 22 fours and two sixes, didn't offer a chance until he got past 100.
Josh King (23) added 54 for the fourth wicket with Young and Chris Luxton (30) added 58 with him for the sixth.
Bideford scored 67 in the last six overs.
Chris Greenhouse (16) and Des Solomon put on 41 for Ivybridge’s first wicket, occupying 18 overs in the process.
Seekku De Silva and Solomon put on 60 for the second wicket, after which wickets fell at regular intervals.
Solomon's 82 occupied all but the last two deliveries of the match. A wide by Young and single off the last ball hit by Mike Tuckwell got Ivybridge to 200 for eight off the last ball.
