IPPLEPEN II stay top after a 84 run home win over Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough side they bowled out for 136 with Rob Hay taking 4-19. Earlier Lee Curtis had top scored with 78 as the table toppers closed on 220-6.
Clyst St George II bagged only their second win of the season but did so in emphatic style, beating win less Axminster II by nine wickets in a contest that was all over before the parish church chimed for 4.30pm!
Axminster batted first and were bundled out for just 53 with all but eight of their runs scored by two players! John Swain (25) and Sean Perry (20) were the principle run getters whilst the Bohea Field sides most damaging bowler was Mithun Banik Mazumder, who claimed 6-29 in eight overs.
Paul Richardson also picked up three wickets to finish with figures of 3-21 and the other wicket was claimed by 12-year-old Charlie Green who plays for the club’s girls’ team and took a wicket in her one over sent down, thanks to a catch from Richard Coe.
Coe then hit an unbeaten 21 to lead the hosts to an early finish. Chris Doe was the one man out, dismissed for 15 whilst the winning runs came from the bat of Dan Takle with the one scoring shot he had time to play – a sweet four of his legs.
Oz Besley, the Clyst St George chairman who played in the game said: “It was a clinical display by the bowlers for sure.
“Mithun was swinging the ball some way and fully deserved his six wicket haul but I think we were all delighted that young Charlie, a product of the club’s youth system and a regular in our girls ‘team, got a wicket”.
Thorverton II were four-wicket home winners over Clyst Hydon II. The visitors were led to 204-9 by Paul Harris (50) and Si Holmes (43no). Phil Jones (3-30) and Mark Shaw (3-35) claimed the wickets for the Thors who were led to a four-wicket win with just eight balls remaining by Alan Tait (93).
Matt Millward provided the best of the rest with 38. Mike Oberholster was the most successful visiting bowler with 4-51.
Ottery St Mary II completed the double over Ivybridge II and their second success was almost identical to the first victory! When the pair met for the first time the Bridger’s were bundled out for 76 and lost by nine wickets. This time they could only muster 60 with Alex Tubbs (4-10) and George Biggs (3-1) claiming wickets.
Adam Huxtable was the only Bridger’s batsmen to make any impression with 25. George Biggs then hit 28 as Ottery got home on 60-1. The lone home wicket taker was Keith Saxton (1-8).
Barnstaple and Pilton II were 54 run winners at Cornwood III.
Dan Orr (51) and James Roe (51) saw Barum to 211-8. Phil Bees bagged a brace for Cornwood who were then bowled out for 157 despite 63 from the in-form Dave Petherbridge and 31 from Paul Skeemer. Matt Clarke took 5-52 for the North Devon side.
