IPPLEPEN beat Barnstaple by eight wickets at Moor Lane, but dropped points cost them top spot.

Canny bowling restricted Barnstaple to 69 for three at the 20-over mark.

A partnership of 112 between James Roe and Matt Clarke took the visitors to 185-4.

A rain break then an early tea meant the second innings started at 5.45pm.

Pens’ chase was anchored by in-form Tom Cooper (79) in an opening partnership of 91 with Steve Harris (23).

Cooper then put on 62 with Simon Tapley (44no) as the target came down.

Jeff Heath blasted 20 not out of eight balls to finish the chase with 11.2 overs to go.

Unearned bowling bonus points mean Pens drop back to second with Ottery installed as the new leaders after their 76-run win over Clyst SG.

Ottery St Mary 2nds made it four wins and an impressive 80 points from 80 with a 76-run win over hosts Clyst St George.

Ed Fowler (68no) and Barry Flicker (40), combined to help the Otters to 262-8. Paul Richardson took 3-77 and Oz Besley claimed 2-35 for the hosts who were then bowled out for 186 with only Besley (33) and Tim Downer (30) able to make much headway against James Faulkner (5-45).

Clyst Hydon II were 26-1 when rain stopped play and eventually led to their game at Cornwood being abandoned.

Mike Denford had a fine day with bat and ball as Thorverton II were big winners over visiting Axminster II.

 Denford (46), Jock Spry (43), Neil Anning (31) and Mark Shaw (30no), combined to help the Thors to 220-9.

Dan Fuzzard claimed 3-51 for Axminster who were then hustled out for a meagre 69 with skipper Peter Kai top scoring with 18

Denford (3-9), James Meredith (3-21) and Neil Anning (3-27) claimed wickets at regular intervals to consign Axminster to a third defeat in four games of what remains a winless campaign to date.
