BOVEY Tracey’s Farhaan Behariden signed off with a 77-run leaving present, before heading off to Australia, in yesterday’s 91-run win over Cornwood in the Tony Pryce Sports Devon Cup.

South African Behardien learned last month he has been selected for the national U25 side for an emerging players’ tournament in Queensland.

Yesterday’s game was his last before leaving the club – and he won’t be coming back when the tournament is over either.

His 77 off 62 balls with three sixes and six fours helped Bovey compile 243 for six in 40 overs, which was always going to be a tall –order for Cornwood to overhaul.

Behardien capitalised on good work by openers Lance Ames (34) and Ben Ayres (53), who put 113 on the board for the first wicket.

Cornwood had a bash at the start – they were 44 for none after seven overs – but trying to keep up with the rate proved beyond them and they meandered to 108 for six then 152 all out.

Scott Mansfield (23) and Jack Nash (35) got Cornwood started, but only Kevin Willcock (25) did much after they went.
There were no surprises at Barton where the A Division side were eight-wicket losers in their quarter-final game against Premier leaders Sidmouth.

Barton collapsed from 31 for three to 37 for seven – Will Murray (3-12) doing the damage – and there was no way back after that.

Alex Ali (18) and Jack Porter (39) salvaged something by putting on 57 for the eighth wicket, but Barton’s tally of 98 all out wasn’t exactly challenging.

Sidmouth were 25 for two after Adam Parker and Porter took a wicket each, but a stand of 77 between Neil Hancock (53no) and Chris Williams (33no) had Barton beaten with more than 12 overs to go.

Tavistock’s game against Exeter has been postponed until later in the month.

Through, too, are Plymouth on the back of an eight-wicket win over Paignton at Peverell Park.

Paignton were all out for 102 with four of their 40 overs to go – Dave Burke (pictured above) helping himself to four of their wickets for 25 runs.

Jack Little (22no) (left) and Callum Whittaker led Plymouth home after James Toms (20) laid the foundations.

   Barton 98 (J Porter 39; W Murray 3-12, C Williams 2-1, N Hancock 2-20, S Barlow 2-19), Sidmouth 102-2 (N Hancock 53no, C Williams 33no). Sidmouth bt Barton by 8 wkts.

   Bovey Tracey 243-6 (F Behardien 77, B Ayres 53, L Ames 39, A Kingdon 30; M Butterworh 3-57, K Willcock 3-48), Cornwood 152 (J Nash 35, K Willcock 25, Mansfield 23; C Bradley 3-23, F Behardien 2-22). Bovey Tracey bt Cornwood by 91 runs.

   Paignton 102 (R Shergold 20; D Burke 4-25, S Marks 3-15), Plymouth 103-2 (C Whittaker 40, J Little 22no). Plymouth bt Paignton by 8 wkts.

EXETER are on their way to the last for of the Tony Pryce Devon Cup following a 71-run win at Tavistock in their delayed quarter-final.

Aaron Williams (47) and Glenn Lammonby (46) were the main run getters in Exeter’s total of 186 for six

Williams joined Lammonby in the middle after the early demise of Mike Wilkinson to Andy Kaitiff (2-32) and took the score from nine for one to 107 for two.
Getting Williams then Lammonby out only gave Tavistock brief relief as Alex Brown (26no) and former Tavvy batsman Alan Searle (22) carried on accumulating runs.
Tavistock bowled tidily with youngster James McGahey (1-19) in particular catching the eye.
Tavvy, handicapped by the absence of their renowned big hitter Steve Luffman, were all out for 115 in reply with a dozen of their 40 overs to come downl.
John McGahey (27) and Dave Manning (32) gave Tavvy a start, but subsequent batsmen could not maintain the momentum
Exeter skipper Jon Tipper destroyed the bottom half of the Tavvy order as he took six for 37 to send the Moorlanders crashing out for 115 after they had been 96 for five.
Exeter will be at home to Plymouth this Sunday in their semi-final. The other semi is at Sidmouth where Bovey Tracey are the visitors.
Exeter 180-6 (A Williams 47, G Lammonby 46, A Brown 26no; A Kaitiff 2-32), Tavistock 115 (D Manning 32, J McGahey 27; J Tipper 6-37). Exeter bt Tavistock by 71 runs.
