TWO players at opposite ends of their careers steered Exeter to a seven-wicket win over Ivybridge in the first round of the Devon Cup.Glen Lammonby – 46 and still going strong – opened up and batted through to make 69 not out from 77 balls.
Teenager Will Steward went one better with an undefeated 70 as Exeter rattled off the 147 needed to win with seven overs to spare in a game reduced to 34-a-side.
Exeter sent a seriously young side to Filham Park – average age below 20 – and there was a brief wobble at the start of the chase.
Opener Alex Bosomworth fell at the end of the first over to Paul Veale, and when Steve Morris was cleaned up three balls later by Jamie Bullock, Exeter were two for one.
Lammonby and Steward put on 148 unbroken to win the match.
Earlier,Sri Lankan Jeewan deSilva top scored for Ivybridge with 33 having arrived after the depature of Gareth Andrews to Merrick Steward (2-28).
Tom Lancaster chipped in with 33, but only Kelvin Trent (17) and Chris Greehouse (12) managed double-figure scores after that.
Captain for the day Tom Viljoen picked up three Ivybridge wickets for 17 runs as the home side were limited to 146 for nine.
Exeter will be at home to Barton in the next round of the competiion.

BUDLEIGH Salterton were on the wrong end of a surprise result when the met Barton at Ottermouth.
For the A Division side defeated their Premier counterparts by five runs in a thrilling finish.
Tom Drake top scored for Barton wit 75 and there were useful contributions from Tom Porter (38) and Shaun Needham (23).
Devon’s Matt Kidd bagged three for 39 while Matt Plowman had two for 31.
Budleigh Tracey ran out of time at 183 for nine, pinned down for too long by Barton’s Husain Badat (2-20). Porter had two for 37.
Kidd (24), Bob Dawson (44) and Lloud White (28no) all contributed but Budleigh lacked the anchorman innings like Drake’s to see it through.
