DARTINGTON & Totnes have to pick themselves up after relegation last season and start all over again in the C Division this season.
D&T have gone with the youngsters for the past couple of years, looking to build for the future after clambering up the league ladder from the D Division in 2008.
Something stalled last season and D&T never made much of an impression.
Harold Stevenson has returned as captain after a year off and is taking a clear-headed approach to getting back on the straight and narrow.
There is no bigger enthusiast for young players than Stevenson, but he wants to leaven the 1st XI with some older heads this term.
“The wheels fell off last season, but this season we will be a different side,” said Stevenson.
“A number of our old boys are back with us – the Colgate family, James Howrihane, Jack Allen – and have benefited from playing 1st XI cricket at Cockington.
“We will see the benefit of the experience all of them have gained.
“What we do need are some older heads in the side – and I don’t mean me as all I have been trying to do for the past couple of years is ‘retire’ to the 2nd XI.
“There will be a role for Mike Jarvis and Dave Carter this season to give that bit of stability that’s been missing.
“The first aim is to consolidate. But if we start well there is a chance we could do more than that.”
One player D&T won’t see this season is Ryan Stevenson, who has opted to play league golf this summer for Stover.
D&T’s new overseas player is Brad Mitchell, a left-hander keeper-batsman aged 22 from Melbourne.
