WHITCHURCH won for the first time this season when they upended neighbours Yelverton by two wickets.
Mark Kerswell claimed 5-48 and George Webb (2-47) played his part as visiting Yelverton were bowled out for 172 with Geoff Brain the top scorer with 48.
Webb then hit an unbeaten 60 to help see the hosts over the winning line for the first time this season – the winning runs being struck by five-wicket man Kerswell (9no).
Josh Meadows also chipped in with a valuable 25 as Whitchurch landed a two-wicket victory. Ian Cunningham took 4-37 for the beaten visitors.
PARMINDER Singh was the star of the show for Countess Wear in the nine-wicket win over Bridestowe.
Phil Hatton was the only Bridestowe batsmen to make much impression, top scoring with 24 in his side’s 113.
It was 15-year old spinner Singh who put the skids under Bridestowe as he claimed six wickets for 33 runs.
Peter Darke then hit an unbeaten 59 and, with Kav Diaz (40) the only batsmen dismissed in the run chase for 40, Countess Wear landed a comfortable nine-wicket win.
Delighted Wear skipper Dave Harkness said: “Parminder was superb, for someone of such young age he bowls with such maturity.
“The team are flying at the moment and we are putting distance between ourselves and the clubs in trouble.
“For me a mid-tale finish would suffice this term and I feel we are on our way to achieving that”.
HALBERTON boosted their troubled position with a surprise 53-run win at promotion chasing Ottery St Mary.
Paul Robins served up the individual match-winning performance for the Mid Devon side with a six boundary 42 in his side’s total of 152 all out.
Jeremy Turner weighed in with a hard-hitting 37 that included a six and seven fours. Mark Woodman was the pick of the Otters bowlers with 2-38 from his 13 overs. Woodman then top scored for the Otters with an unbeaten 27 from the number nine slot.
Opener Rob Johns hit the next best score of 16. Robins took 6-24 in 8.3 overs for the visitors.
Whimple won the East Devon derby at home to Feniton. The visitors batted first and were bowled out for 144 with only Graham Tucker (65) making much of an impression as Chris Palfrey (3-42) and skipper Jono Burden (3-42) claimed wickets.
David Chamberlain then struck 53 before he was out and that left Mike Searle to see Whimple over the winning line with an unbeaten 53.
Russ Witton was the most successful of the Feniton bowlers with 2-28.
A delighted Whimple skipper Jono Burden said: “We were worthy winners thanks to an excellent all-round show.
“We may yet be able to force our way into the promotion places. It’ll take a big effort but we have climbed into the top four with this win and now need to have a real go over the coming weeks to set ourselves up for what could be a very exciting and rewarding, end to the season.”
Table-topping Ipplepen recorded their tenth win of the D Division season with a five wicket verdict away to Plymouth Civil Service & Roborough.
Andy Hawker top scored for the home side with 52 but it was Keith Wakeham who starred in the games first innings with 5-32.
Jack Lewis then hit an unbeaten 50 to lead the leaders to a five-wicket win. Jack Dent claimed 4-37 for the beaten hosts.
