LEADERS Ipplepen put previously unbeaten Whimple to the sword, defeating them by 146 runs on their own patch too!
Batting first the Pens made their way to 211-nine, led byy Dave Harris with a maiden league century.
Harris nailed 20 fours and a six on his way to 118 and shared in a stand of 97 for the first wicket with Jack Lewis on a bowler-friendly track.
Skipper Jono Burden (4-35) and Paul Gillard (3-37) were amongst the wickets for Whimple.
Whimple then faced the full force of Pens’ seamer Paul Thomas, who took 8-21 leaving then all out for just 65 in the 19th over.
Mason took the first seven wickets one after the other before Andrew Mason got in on the act.
Skipper Burden said: “That’s lowered my ambitions somewhat for this term.
"They (Ipplepen) played really well and, on the day the best team certainly won.
"But we will need to pick ourselves up and come back fighting next time out.”
Ottery St Mary made short work of visiting Countess Wear, whom they beat by nine wickets.
The Exeter side batted first and, but for a fine knock of 61 from Kav Diaz, had precious little else in the book as Rob Johns (4-22), Mark Woodman (3-20), Sam Loud (2-8) and Nick Dowman (1-22), took their wickets.
