Exeter III were beaten for the first time this season in a low scoring affair at home to Feniton II.Fourteen-year-old Josh Cann struck a terrific 21 as wickets tumbled all around with Feniton sliding to 76-8. The tail wagged with Duncan Cousins (31), Jake Smith (25) and last man Matt Davies (5no) helping the total to a close of 135. Jim Wenley claimed 5-30 for the table toppers. At 114-6 Exeter were in cruise control with Jake Reddick and Sam Reddick both having struck 20 before being returned to the pavilion.
However, Feniton battled back and Dan Clarke (4-24) clean bowled the last three batsmen to bowl the hosts out for 127. Kev Brandon took 3-39 for Feniton and young James Vanstone was the not out batsmen on 13 for Exeter who still hold a commanding 25 point lead at the top of the table.
Upottery II slipped to a seven wicket home defeat at the hands of Kentisbeare II. Jack Trevisic (43), Adam Crabb (39), Steve Jennings (16) and a battling seven from Mike Arscott helped the villagers to 149. Andy Hazledine took 4-44 for the Kent’s who then cruised to a seven wicket win thanks to an unbeaten 47 from Gary Benzie. Sam Bath and his dad Adam Bath together with Adam Crabb claimed the wickets for the East Devon side.
Uplyme and Lyme Regis II were six wicket winners at home to Whimple II.
Grant Northover (66) and skipper Barry Wright (55) led Whimple to 198. The bulk of the wicket taking was done by teenagers Ollie Lee and Reece Davies. Fourteen-year-old Lee claimed 3-17 whilst 13-year-old Davies took 3-23. Steve Batey, stepping in for the unwell Brian Rattenbury, led the run chase with an unbeaten 76. Stand-in skipper Dave Norman (49) and Michael Holding (44no) were the other run scorers. Three of the four home wickets to fall were ducks! Uplyme bagged victory on 199-4.
Axminster II made it two wins from two with a maximum point’s home triumph over Countess Wear II. Sam Farrow (4-49) and Sean Perry (3-2) combined to bowl the Exeter side out for 206. Then Perry struck a wonderful 121, his knock including 19 fours and two 6s. Dan Bicknell chipped in with 32 and Axminster got home with six wickets to spare.
There was no play possible at Exmouth III where North Devon III were the scheduled visitors.
