D DIVISION EAST
WHIMPLE II stay top of the table and have now won all six of their games after a five-wicket home win over Exmouth III.
The visitors batted first and were bundled out for 84 with only Sam Lee (24) and Roger Wensley (17) making much of an impression as Will Cleal claimed 6-13 in eleven exceptional overs, five of which were maidens.
Jono Bardot also chipped in with a pair of wickets. Steve Palfrey then hit 19 before Will Bardot (22no) saw the home side over the winning line.
Whimple skipper Barry Wright, speaking about his side dropping twice as many points as they had let slip all season, said: “We’ll be having a chat about this before the next game.”
Uplyme and Lyme Regis II were two-wicket winners at Countess Wear II in a low-scoring affair.
Countess Wear II were bowled out for 80 and then scraped home with two wickets to spare.
Wallis Blackmore was the star of the show with the ball as he took 5-32.
Wickets continued to tumble when Uplyme took their turn with the bat but a patient 13 from Dave Norris edged them towards victory and it was Paul Compton (12no) and Paddy Barraclough (5no), who were their unbeaten batsmen when the win was confirmed.
Axminster III could only muster eight players for the trip to Instow to face North Devon III where they were bowled out for 55, passed for the loss of one wicket by the hosts. Tom Stanton struck 27 in the successful run chase.
