D DIVISION
OTTERY St Mary provided the result of the day in the D Division when they become the first team this season to beat leaders Ipplepen.
The Pens had gone into the game having won all their opening six fixtures while the Otters were unbeaten but not 100 per centers.
After a delayed start Ottery slipped to 35 for four in what were bowler-friendly conditions, but battled back to close on a gritty 139 all out.
Jodi Clements (43) and Will Mumford (38) were the principle run getters.
Central Districts U23 star Andrew Mason was in inspired form for the hosts with a seven for 18 haul from 11 overs. Sam Wakeham claimed 2-12.
Wakeham then provided the top score of 21 in the reply but wickets tumble, mainly to Will Harrison (5-31) as the host were bundled out for 87.
Ottery are now the only side in the section to remain unbeaten and they sit just three points behind the leaders. Next up is a home meeting with a Whimple side without a win in four weeks.
Feniton enjoyed a tremendous nine wicket win at Bridestowe where the star of the show was Norman Bedford.
The home side batted first and were always struggling against the bowling of Bedford, who finished with 5-33 in 12.4 overs, and Mark Kingdon (2-29 in 12), and the final wicket fell with the score on 136.
Bedford then hit an unbeaten 74 and Charlie Selley struck an unbeaten 42 as Feniton strolled home.
A delighted skipper, Mark Kingdon, said: “We were wondering on the trip up if we’d get a full game in but, as it happens, the conditions, thought testing, were more than good enough for a game of cricket and we produced a fine all-round effort. Norman (Bedford) was superb with both ball and bat and there were other excellent contributions.”
There was no play in three of the matches with the games at Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough (where third-placed Yelverton were the visitors) and at bottom side Whitchurch (due to face Whimple), fell in the morning and no play either at a soggy Samford Peverell where Halberton called their game off with Countess Wears at 2.15pm.
Halberton skipper Jon Chilcott said: “It was a tough call, our outfield was soggy and it was seemingly a case of damned if you do and damned if you don’t.
“It’s disappointing of course as we were looking to press on with our league season and we were at full strength for a game that I really felt we would do well in.”
