Devon consolidated top spot in Division 3 of LV Womens County Championship with a comfortable win over Derbyshire at Axminster. After winning the toss and electing to bat, openers Heather Knight and Vicky Bowden resumed normal service as they added 180 for the first wicket, Bowden falling for 60, caught behind. The quick loss of Olivia Anderson for just a single didn’t affect Knight as she marched on to yet another undefeated century, making 121 no from 160 balls, including 19 boundaries. She added a further 63 runs with Giselle Ansley, 18 no as Devon totaled 244-2 from their 50 overs.
A superb opening spell from Rebecca Donohue rocked Derbyshire on their heels as together with Giselle Ansley and Nicole Richards the visitors were reduced to 30-5, Donohue picking up 3-5. With the innings all but finished skipper Miles elected to rotate her bowlers, eight used in the end, with a wicket for Rebecca Piddock, one for herself and run out completing the wickets tally as Derbyshire closed on 97-8, thankful for Hopkins, 22 and Sundaram, 17 no adding 40 for the 8th wicket. Devon ran out winners by 147 runs and in so doing opened up a 30 point lead at the top of the Division.
