Devon publish 2013 fixture list

EXETER, Sidmouth and Exmouth will host Devon’s three-day Minor Counties games next summer, which means no match at Torquay for the second year running.

Exeter will host the clash with Cornwall on June 9, 10 and 11 while Wiltshire will be going to Exmouth on July 21, 22 and 23rd.

Officials at Exeter had hoped to stage a game last season on the County Ground – it would have been the first there since 1987 – but the game against Dorset was rained off without a ball bowled in any of the three days.

Devon’s last game of the season at Sidmouth is the fixture versus Oxfordshire on August 18, 19 and 20.

One-day KO games will be staged against Oxfordshire at Bovey Tracey and Hertfordshire at North Devon.

If Devon progress past the group stages in the cup they will use Exmouth and Sidmouth for quarter and semi-final matches.

Torquay was dropped from the three-day fixture list last season, although a Devon Lions development match against Cardiff MCCU one-dayer was played there.

Devon are likely to make Torquay the same offer again in 2012, once the First Class sides have finalised their fixture lists and are ready to talk about 2nd XI matches.

“Torquay will be asked to do a Lions game again,” confirmed Devon’s chief executive Neil Gamble.

“The problem remains the quality of their wicket, which was marked down again in last summer's Premier Division games, although it was OK for the Cardiff MCCCU fixture.

As soon as the standard rises we shall go back for a Championship match.”

Devon started using the Recreation Ground in 1932 when Surrey 2nd XI were the visitors.

Since 1946 Torquay was used virtually every year by Devon – and some seasons more than once.

Devon’s last game at Torquay was in 2011 when they defeated Cheshire in a low-scoring game.

Devon’s cricketers will be visiting two new venues this season: Dunstable and Usk. They face Bedfordshire in the KO Cup at Dunstable and Wales at Usk.

Herefordshire are taking Devon to Colwall again – a regular venue over the years – while Cheshire await at Bowdon.

Devon’s last visit to Bowdon was in 1999 when a two-day game ended in a draw.
