The Devon reply didn’t get off to the best start, loosing their first wicket after a mistimed pull short looped to gully in the first over. However, patient stands between Freddie Filor – Sandford (28) and Jake Reddick – Exeter (32) totaling 50 and another between Charlie Barriball - Whitchurch (17) and Jamie Telford - Exeter (42) for 42 runs brought Devon to within 45 runs with 7 overs remaining.
This week it was the turn of Ben Green (20*) and Ben Steer (5*) to help Devon over the line in yet another 1 wicket victory with two balls to spare! Some good clean hitting, some wayward bowling, a tight run out appeal and a couple of calm heads being the deciding factor for getting to the winning post.
Two single wicket wins with two balls to spare will leave the manager & coach in pieces, not to mention the spectators!
Everyone who has played in these matches will have learnt some valuable lessons about playing under pressure. We really do need to improve our ground fielding and reduce the extra’s we concede. Every run saved is one we do not need to chase!
Well done to everyone who played. Each player contributed to the victory, which will be put down as a good team effort!
North Devon hosted us magnificently and we look forward to Mark Overton’s sausage, chips and beans for our fixture there next season!
